the Home AC was working fine yesterday, but noticed at noon today it wasn't, thats when I found the A-coil froze over. I shut it off, and let it thaw out, then turned it back on. the outside unit comes on, and you can here the compresser kick in, but only the bottom of the A-coil seems to get as cold as it should

Check the filter and make sure the blower motor is working. But if they are ok, it sounds like that it may be low on a charge. Check around the outside unit to see if it has a sight glass in the liquid line, the smaller of the two. If there are bubbles in the sight glass after it has run for a while, then you are low on a charge. Need to get it recharged by a pro.

If the equipment is fairly new the condenser(outside unit) is not the right size for the air handler (inside unit) check the brand and model # on both units and see if they are the same. 3 ton or 2 ton , and call a local HVAC supply company and ask if the two units are compatible.
