I've always wanted a Weeping Willow tree and now have a property big enough for one.....the spot where I want to plant it is at the bank of a canal which is somewhat brackish water....also, how far should the tree be from my septic system?

How far? Willow roots will travel up to 60 feet in search of water. Plant your tree at LEAST 60 feet from your septic system! If it doesn't care for the canal water, it may go looking somewhere else.

Weeping willows are beautiful to look at but they are trash trees. You'll be raking up a lot of broken branches from your lawn.

Weeping willows love moist soil. They will not survive in salt water. I would suspect your location near the canal would be OK. Keep away from the septic field as far as possible. You need to know that weeping willows are not especially long-lived trees. I have seen some magnificent examples die out for no apparent reason at 20 years or so. Plant your willow near the canal, it will do fine.

If you plant the Willow near that canal, it will love you! Willows love water and will seek it out, therefore, closer to a source of water the better. KEEP it well away from your septic! As I mentioned, they love water and will seek it out, therefore if it is close to your septic it will wreck havoc! The roots will damage your system.

Plant elephant ears in the standing water. Plant the weeping willow on the other side of the yard.

Keep away from all septic tank lines, and brackish water will not go well with willows or eucalyptus. Good luck
