He was raised in a home and he is now domesticated. If you put him out, he will not know how to fend for himself, find food, protect himself, or any of the things they learn out in the world from their squirrel families.
As far as his liking your company........... Of course he does! You're his family now! He probably thinks he's a human!
You can't turn him out to the world. He will not make it. You need to keep him and enjoy his antics while you can!
Have fun!

You didn't raise it in the wild with other squirells so it just does not fit in there. It has a standard of living and where to get food and water imprinted on its wee little brain. YOU did that. Now you live with it. It thinks of you as mom/ family/ herd. So, how does it fell to be thought of as a bit squirelly by a squirell? Enjoy your pet. Your stuck with it now.

Looks like you have yourself a pet. In the olden days, Squirrels were pets. they had houses like bird houses. If you go to any museum that has relics of yesteryear, you will find Squirrel cages. But, you will want to take it to the vet to get it vaccinated. The thing with why they don't make good pets is that they tend to be good carriers of disease. But now we can fix that.

Thats sweet! You have a squirrel who thinks he's a domesticated animal. So, let him in and treat him like a cat - let him go outside as he pleases and also hang out in the house!

I think you should keep it as an indoor pet. It is too tame to watch out for itself, and you dont want a hawk, dog, or redneck to get it.
I appreciate your trying to return it to the wild though. Its a shame when people catch wild animals as pets, but in this case, you have no choice.

If you do decide to keep him as a pet (and that may not be a good idea for many reasons), here are some things that you need to know:
