There were 9 planets orbiting the sun until some bored scientist decided to kick out Pluto. So technically there is 8, but there will always be 9 in my book.

As a matter of a fact they kicked Pluto and added Xena, so there are still nine.

well last I've heard didn't they discard Pluto from being a planet?
