Jen-ee's answer is quite good because she is cautious enough not to consider any kind of learned behavior as culture (unlike psychologist). Indeed, the ability to transmit learned behavior characterizes culture, but unlike other animals, in homo sapiens this ability constitutes the highest range of behavior that a newborn must learn. So needing the presence of two parents during the longest period in animal kingdom is a consequence of all the behavior that must be learned. Actually, cultural traits can even govern innate trends like reproduction, which in most countries takes place long after the biological ability to do so is present.

a much debated question in anthropology and primatology...

culture is that part of a society that is not transmitted genetically... culture is a set of learned behaviors and ideas, to cope with the environment... i dont know evidence offhand of monkey culture, but chimps definetly have learned behaviors.. things like modifying a stick to get termites out of a hole, breaking nuts with a piece of wood and a rock, and numerous other behaviors in their interactions with each other (ie. giving high five)

its a real problem for some scientists who wanted to believe that humans are the only organisms on the planet who have culture, and are therefore special and "above" other creatures

They have a very strictly defined social order, and mutually groom one another in a very careful way.
They are capable of tool use, and learning several hundred words. They form tribes, and war with other tribes.
I believe that they have culture.

I watched Jane Goodall's documentaries on the Chimpanzees in Africa. It seemed to me they did. At one point, they became too populated for the amount of resources in that area and actually went to war against each other with stones etc.

Watch those documentaries; they are fascinating.

Chimpanzees have shown to develop alliances, they have gang wars, give favors to others, work in cooperation - I would say they definitely have culture.
