You answered your own question. The horizon appears curved because it is. When you are looking over a distance of 10 or 12 miles the curvature of the earth is very visible.

Radius of any circle does not show the curvature of any circle. it is the circumfrence of the circle that shows it up as curved however large it might be . Since the earth is a gblobe and we do not see anything that is on the curved side, that is below the line of our sight at the far end and since the line of sight ends and meets with the horizon along with the curvature of the earths surface we the horizon to be circular .since we see the blue sky in continutity from the top of the sky over our head to the end of the line of our sight meeting with the end of our line of sight along the ground level , thesky also looks to be curved over our head and covering the earth as a dome with its edges touching the circle that the end of our line of sight . So it appears to be curved and domed along the horizon

for the ants it may appear flat. for us .... sweetie we are not that small !
