In old tradition the wedding veil was to hide the bride from demons, and ward off evil. In more modern days, it came to represent modesty, youth and virginity.

Now the veil often doesn't cover the face at all, but trails down the back or poofs over the head, since it's purpose is not only to conform somewhat to tradition, but primarily to complement the bridal attire as a whole.

The lifting of the veil by the groom symbolized male dominance in the past. Nowadays the bride often helps the groom lift the veil, revealing the independence of today's woman.

For ceremonial purposes only. The "lovely" bride's face is hidden until you are pronounced man and wife, then you lift the veil, see her beauty and give her a kiss!

It is a symbol. First the face is covered, like a muslim woman is kept from the eyes of society. Then you are married and the veil comes off.

positioned on a veil. I wasn't planning on donning a veil until eventually the product hustler at David's Bridal informed me that "you'll merely be that especially lady in that especially gown in case you do not positioned on a veil" so I went to a diverse keep and were given my veil for 1/2 the cost David's Bridal change into attempting to promote it to me for. i imagine the veil quite completes the seem.

I'm not quite sure but maybe they are so when you walk down the isle the groom doesn't see how beautiful you are until he pulls back the veil.... or maybe they are just part of the tradition or the wedding dress.

It is a symbol the bride is waiting to be uncovered by the man she chooses... plus it symbolizes innocence waiting for the wedding night to be uncovered Mmmmm and when he lifts up the veil he is ready to uncover his love of his life it is quite romantic I think...

It covers the bride's face. It is sort of like wrapping paper -- so you can't see the gift until it is too late.
