I was just over a friends house and his computer wasn't working right

1.The computer is running slow.
2.Aim says not connected
3.Msn says not connected
4.Internet keeps saying page cannnot be displayed.
5.The web browser is connected though(atleast it says it's connected)..Why won't these things run?We ran the computer for spyware but it didn't seem to help any.

Any suggestions of what may be the problem. We are thinking it's a virus but not sure.

Reset every thing he has no connection or a bad connection

options to try until it works. # 1 should work but if not try the others.

1) turn off the computer, unplug the connection for 10 sec, plug it back in turn on the computer.

2) go to "START" then run and type in

ipconfig_ all (enter)

ipconfig_release (enter)

ipconfig_renew (enter)

3) go to control panel,

network and Internet connections

network connections

local area connection

go to the support tab

then click on repair

As for you're computer running slow it could be just the bad connection or a Virus so when you get the connection back run it through a virus scan

You've definately got issues with your machine. Yes, it can be caused by trojans, viruses, varients, etc. And it can be caused by several problems involving bad configurations over a period of time. When a machine gets to this point, it's really better to just format the hard drive and use your original installation cd to put windows back in again.
