Every time you mail your resume, it should be accompanied by a covering letter. It should tell the prospective employer why you are suitable for the job you are applying for. Generally a covering letter should not be more than three paragraphs. You should put as much effort into your covering letters as you put into your resume.

Before writing you covering letter, do a thorough research of the company you are applying to through various sources including Internet, newspapers and the company's annual report. You can create an impression by referring to their products, market share and opportunities in your letter.

Format of Covering Letter:

First Paragraph

State the purpose of your application. Explain in brief the type of work you are interested in, and make a mention of how you learned about the employer and/or the specific job opportunity.

Second Paragraph

Be specific about why you are interested in the position. Highlight your most saleable skills that are apt for the job. Remember to consider this from an employer's point of view. Mention how you can be an asset to the organization, rather than merely daydreaming about what the employer can offer you.

Closing Paragraph(s)

Refer the reader to the resume (or CV) you are attaching. Declare your interest in seeking an interview and offer to provide further information upon request. Invite a response by asking a question and/or indicating what follow-up you have in mind.

Sincerely,
XYZ (Your name)

Hi, if you are applying by mail you can send a cover letter with your resume in the mail, if you are applying via email - put the wording of your cover letter in the main bit of the email.
I don't have links to cover letters but I would recommend along the lines of:

I saw ..advert...on...and would be very interesting in applying for this role...

...some details about what you are currently doing in your job if you are employed or what you have recently been doing - and how that relates to the advert -(checking the wording of the advert - the more you can relate it to that, the more chance you have of your application being considered)..

..some more details about your skills and experience...try and put in two or three specific examples of things you have done which directly relate to the advert description...

and then just finish it with something like...
I attach a copy of my resume and look forward to hearing from you... if you are currently employed and need to give notice...put in details of how soon you can be available and if you have holiday or anything booked - details of when you might not be available for interview. (This makes the recruiter's job much easier and it makes you look organised)...

Forgot to say, if you are applying for a job in a different location or country - put details in of why you wish to particularly work in that location.

Best of luck

There is no much attention given to the covering letter. It is, however, good to write something like:

I would be interested with the software openings that your organization currently have. I am sending my updated resume attached with this mail.

Thanking you,

regards
