So I have a small 2.5 minibow, with 2 small female platies and 1 small male platy, and a small betta, do I have to do something for them to mate, or will it eventually happen without me even knowing? Or do I have to do something special?? At my LPS, they said as long as I change the water more often, they should all fit in there ok...

for platies you will not have to do anything and they will probably have babies soon. just keep planty of plants or flowers for the babies to hide and help them to get little bigger and from get eatting from bigger fish. keep eye on betta if you have babies don't let the betta eat them he or she will get sick.

Platys are hybrids and do not reproduce quite as regularly as other live bearers. Try increasing the vegetables in their diet by giving them the mushed up insides of peas once a week and slices of cucumber to pick at, and buy some earthworm flakes (lots of enzymes) to feed them twice a week. Increasing the frequency of water changes with water at the same temp as the tank will also help a great deal.
