Is it better if I go back to school for another degree or get some sort of IT certficiation?

An IT certification, particularly if it's a Microsoft certification, will certainly get you in the door; but I have a business degree and work as a production mgr for a software firm. I started here as a product trainer and was asked to take my current position because I knew the product so thoroughly. Many of the people I work with do not have engineering degrees.
Consider an entry level position in customer service or production management where you can learn by doing.

Somebody needs to manage the nerds. Why not use your degree and still get into IT? By making you the manager the lead nerd can spend his time dealing with major issues instead of pushing paper.
