I have a thermometer, that I got at wal-mart. One of those "Aqua-Culture" thermometers, in a tube with weights at the bottom and a suction cup at the top. But, I had that thermometer for 3+ years, and the suction cup rubber is all hard and stuff, and it eventually broke. How can I attach the thermometer to my tank without anything hideous or big? Do I have to submerge the whole tube? Is there anything I can use that will not put chemicals, rust or whatever into the tank? Thanks greatly.

If you had the thermometer for three plus years, it is most likely time to purchase a new one. Unless this was an extremely expensive thermometer, I would just toss it and buy a new one.

I really do not know why you cannot use the thermometer anyway without the cap(the rubber suction cap). It is weighted so put it in the corner of the tank and it will be on the bottom.... turn it so you can read it

Personally I would just go get a new one for under $5. They have ones similar in design to what you just described, but they are free floating (and in the case of a deep tank - they work will with another one of those stick on ones towards the bottom for both high and low temp readings).

They are so inexpensive just buy a new one. They can be replaced by a newer type that is a sticker that you attatch to the out side of the tank like tape. Good luck and best wishes.

just stick the sucker to the side, mine works
