Calm down.
Since you've had sex - it really is a good idea to see a gyn.
Your mom most likely knows you've had sex already and that is why she wants you to see one.
I don't know what state you live in -- each state has different laws about letting parents know things...
If you felt you were old enough to have sex, then you must realize you are old enough to take responsibility for your actions. Seeing a doctor is a start. If you don't want to be pregnant, this is the best time to speak up and get some protection. If you've had unprotected sex, this is the best time for a pap smear (hmmm, catch something) and a blood test. You are very young and naive -- and there are things about sex that can hurt you - and yes, in some cases even kill you.
So be the woman you want to be - see the doctor - and learn from him or her on how to take care of yourself.
P.S. Forget about the hymen -- ever go horseback riding? The hymen is just a piece of skin easily broken and most likely in the case of the majority of teenage girls has been through exercises.

The Doc will be able to tell. But telling you mom depends on how old you are. Also did you ever think that telling your mom may be the best thing to do all around? She may think that you are being responsible enough to come to her. Birth control is a good thing to be on if your not ready or old enough to have a baby. There are so many options for young lady's today. Don't you think that finding out you have had sex would be a lot better coming from you instead of a doctor? I have a daughter myself and she thought that I would have a fit when I found out that she was having sex. I wasn't real happy. But I felt it would be better for me to know than her coming to me with the news of a baby. Good luck honey. Hope you do the right thing for you.

That is a very tough situation to be in and from the sounds of it you seem pretty young, so depending on that the doctor may be allowed to tell your mother that your hymen isn't intact- but don't panic he/she could just as easily let your mom know that doesn't exactly mean you've had sex.I'm pretty sure the doctor will be able to tell you've had sex, it's their job to know these things. Especially, if there are any signs like tearing, bruising, or traces or semen, or lubricants.Or you could've torn it playing sports, like soccer, or exercising, or if you've ever fallen off your bike. You should not have your mom in the room and talk to your doctor about doctor/patient confidentiality, which means he/she can't discuss anything they find or you tell them with your mom or anyone else. good luck, be informed, and be careful.

That happened to me years ago ( well more like 8) I was 15 and thought the same thing. The answer to your question is no the Dr. can not tell your parents with out your consent. It is all apart of the Dr.'s code of ethic. They can only tell your parents with your consent. My suggestion to you would be to call the Dr. after the appt is made and leave a message for them to call you ( if you have a cell) if not then just let them know that you have somethings that you would like to talk to the Dr about in private. but you want them to do it discreetly so that your mom doesn't think anything about it.
What ever you do make sure that you tell the Dr. that you are sexually active that way she can test you for any STD's. Make sure that you go at least once a year. Talk to the Dr. about birth control, if you don't want to then find your local planned parent hood they can assist you with Birth control too. Hope this helps, let me know if you need any other help.

First, why does your mom want you to go to a gynecologist? If you are having some medical issues, then by all means, go. But if I were you, and the question of sex comes up, I'd be in full denial. The hymen ("cherry") can be broken by various activities (horseback riding, bicycling, etc.), not to mention the use of tampons. (Of course, if you have any sort of STD, then you're busted.) After the visit with the gyn, go to whatever free clinic is in your area for girls your age, and get the pill. Use condoms as well! This is just my 2 cents -- no more, no less.

The doctor is bound by patient privacy laws and is not allowed to disclose anything. Make sure your mom's not in the room during the exam. The only thing I'm not sure about is how disclosure is viewed if the patient is under 18. Your mom might have you there. Just be honest. Maybe it would be better to tell her you're sexually active so she can counsel you on birth control and how to stay safe and healthy. Good luck.

well it depends how old you are: if you are over 18 or 21 then you can sign an agreement form sayingtaht you want your things kept private or to whom to tell about-the doctor. and yes, the sad part is that the doctor can tell if you have had sex or not since if you go by yourself in the room before the doc comes in and the nurse will ask you if you have had sex, when your last period was, etc. go in with out your mom so you feel not freaking out. and i think that everything between you and your doctor is confidential so you do not have to worry.

Yes the doctor can tell. If you are over the age of 12, any medical issues you have related to sex is confidential. Even if your mom calls the doctor to ask questions about your sexuality, the doctor cannot divulge this information. This is one of your rights.

He MAY be able to determine if you've had sex. It is not a given that he can. The doctor cannot legally tell anyone that you've had sex. Make sure the doctor knows that you want your medical privacy respected. Most would automatically do that, anyway, as required by law.
