For me, some games ALWAYS worked on the first try (say, FFX even though it was quite scratched up), yet FFX-2, even after 20 tries would not load.
So, I got so pissed off, me and a friend opened up the PS2, VERY carefully, and gently cleaned the lens with a qtip. It worked fine for a few months, and then it started doing the same. So, I took it apart myself and cleaned the lens again and now it plays everything fine.
I don't recommend you opening up your PS2, perhaps as a very last resort.

a million. What type Ps2 do you have, the bigger or thinner one, and a couple of. what's the colour of the "bright facet" of the disk? the reason I ask is with the aid of fact some PS2 video games have a darker blue bright facet. The older, bigger fashions of PS2 have problems analyzing those. If neither of those situations prepare, it could be your disk, or consistent with probability even your PS2 is going.

if you are using the ps2 with an old TV sometimes the TV cannot handle the audio try and connect your ps2 with a newer TV and see if that works if not check the disk for scratches and then take it back to the shop
