I wasn't around when McCarthy was in office, so I'm making my comparison based on history books and other media.

I was around then and now. They were similar in many respects. McCarthy was a one dimensional critic of communisim. Bush is a multi-faceted hate monger. Bush hates "terrorists", Islam, Islamic fundamentalists.
Bush is president and wields great power. McCarthy had only the rights of the Senate that allowed him to say almost anything, ruin any life or career. Bush kills people, in Iraq, in Lebanon, in Afghanistan, in Gitmo.

If Bush goes on a rampage accusing US politicians of being collaborators with terrorists or actually being terrorists then he will be McCarthy, but the comparison doesn't work for me right now.

The beliefs and concepts of the two are very similar. Imprison or slander anyone with opposing views, trample on civil liberties, try to convince people of a non-existant threat in order to stir them up for war, and attempt to abolish the constitution.

This is un-American and traitorous to the Constitution and everything that this country has ever stood for.

The noun McCarthyism has one meaning:

Meaning #1: unscrupulously accusing people of disloyalty

I don't think it applies, if you want to MAKE it fit you can.
Technically, logically and common sense prevailing would tell you these are 2 totally seperate issues....hence the usage of different terminology. Everyone needs to stop trying to compare apples and oranges and attempt to have an ORIGINAL thought.

Media is crap. They are the terrorist in my mind. The terrorism today is in no like what the McCarthy era was about. Read the history book again. Forget the stupid media and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hardly, and, by the way, McCarthy was right about the Communist movement in America—he was just wrong in the way he handled the problem.

You are absolutely right. I sometimes think, does USA always needs a competition to thrive and progress? First there was the hoax of Communism and after its collapse they've created another one.

Not me.

Those who do are taking cheap political shots intended to mislead the ignorant.

Talking about "McCarthyism" in the context of the war on terror is done only by those talking to themselves and their small group of friends. NO ONE ELSE is paying ANY attention to that crowd.
