My Betta has swim bladder disorder. I've heard it's common and will sometimes go away on its own, but does anyone know any remedies or how I can help him get better? He needs help. Thanks!

Try glassworms. Sometime fish eat too fast and catch airpockets (gas) in the intestines. Glassworms are a diarectic and helps them to pass gas (I promise that I am not just trying to be a wise guy!) feed the glassworms twice a day, just a few at a time for a week and see if he stops swimming upside down or funny. If he swim normal again, feed him galssworms a couple of times a week to keep it from happening again. If it does not help, then it is a swim bladder problem. To my knowledge there isn't really anythig you can do to help it, just feed him food that stays on top and sinks so that he can eat. Most fish can live with this diease, but they will always swim funny!

Swim bladder can be brought on by various things including constipation and poor water quality. The first thing you should do is change half of the water and don't feed him for two days. That will help solve the problem if it is constipation or bad water. On the third day, thaw a frozen pea and mush up the insides and feed it to him. Then do another water change to get rid of the uneaten peas. He should be a lot better by the fourth day. If you don't add aquarium salt, you should try it at a rate of one level teaspoon per gallon of water.

I had a goldfish with the same problem and feeding him (don't laugh) green peas helped. I thawed out frozen peas and fed him a few each day.

Try your local pet stores for meds.
Most fish never recover from this.
