OK, I know that this sounds like a dumb question but I'm having trouble trying to find out how to put in the matrix in TI-89 and get it in the row echelon form, reduced row echelon form, to solve it and so on. If you are familiar with TI-89 please help me to find that out. Please, describe me the simplest steps on some example.Thank you!

Well, I know it sounds weird but "pencil and paper method" is not so difficult for me, it only takes a lot of time.I'm trying to save some time.

If you're having trouble making the matrices in the first place, here's what you do:

(In HOME:) Use square brackets and enter your numbers separated by commas. Also, you must close your series of brackets with a pair of brackets:

Example: a 2x2
[ [2,3] [3,1] ]

a 3x2
[ [1,2] [4,1] [3,3] ]

If you need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide, you just enter your matrices and just use the simple + or - or x or /.

If you need to find the determinant, you can find "det(" in the catalog.

Row echelon form can also be found in the catalog as "ref(" but they automatically put it into reduced form.

Hope that's not too confusing. Good luck.

I have a TI-89 also, let's see if i can make it work...
Go to page 82 in the manual

press apps and go to the data/matrix editor

go to new

give the type you want. (like matrix)

Choose the folder (main will do unless you use a different one, you probably don't if you have no idea what i am talking about)

name is something like "stop" or "candy" under "variable"

change the row and column dimensions to how you want them, then press enter

Enter the numbers you want for each column

Once your done just press home

Then go back and create the other matrices you want, and again press home

Then type the names of the matrices on the home menu, and multiply them or something, and it will multiply them

Well I could tell you the pencil and paper method but I have a
TI-87. You sure you can't find the instruction manual somewhere.
