Latchkey children are those who have a key to their home and are often left at home alone without adult supervision. Many times there are single parents who need to work to support the children and they cannot afford child care, so the children are given a key to the home and expected to go home after school and take care of themselves. They often need to prepare their own meals, do their homework and self discipline themselves. They are some of the saddest cases of kids being victims of their own environment. The parents are often good people and do the best they can but just need a hand up.
