Someone who is not afraid of getting his hands dirty. Someone who if all technology came to an end would be here the next day because they can survive off of the land. Someone with more commonsense than cents. Someone who isn't afraid of a little hard work. The word work doesn't send them screaming in terror.

A real "redneck" would not have to ask this question. So you must not be one. A true redneck is simple someone that came up to the north from the south. The deep south where you will find a lot of hills. The Bad ones who gave the name its famous to the saying "redneck" would never throw any thing away they would keep an old car outside there trailer when it did not even run. Or just junk like that because who know when you might need apart. Most of the time there where just to lazy to do anything about it. So to be a "redneck" I would say you would have to have a lot of stuff inside and outside just laying around for no reason.

If they love Nascar, live in the south, love the rebel flag, chew tobacco, smoke, or dip, have at least one old truck that don't work sitting in the yard, owns a working pick -up truck, says ain't and gonna all the time, has a gun rack on everything (including the refrigerator), and puts his guns before his kids.

Mainly, it is a cultural thing down south. And if you are a redneck, you are proud of it. You would call yourself one with your buddies but if someone else calls you one condescendingly, you are ready to fight. Even though rednecks are usually portrayed as toothless, trailer-park idiots in Hollywood, most of them are very intelligent.

Country music, nascar, hunting and college football. Shade tree mechanics with 4 broken-down cars in the front yard. A John Deere t-shirt in hopes that you will actually OWN a John Deere one day. Greasy, Southern food, a moon pie and a Dr. Pepper.

well, it could be a lot of things. a sunburned neck, a cowboy hat worn all the time, caring more for the dog than the girl, driving an old truck becuase he's had it soo long he can't give it up, gun rack in the cab, deer antlers mounted on the hood, fishing poles and coolers full of beer in the bed of the truck, facial scruff because he's too lazy to shave, and the list goes on and on and on.

You live in Maine, drive a beat up Volvo (or Chevy Truck), say "ayuh" instead of yes, always leave out the "r's" in words like "Cah" (car) or "lobstah" (lobster), drink Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, and your car is in way better condition than your house.

a lower class white person from the southeastern states of the USA. Derives from someone who spent a lot of time on manual labour outside and so received a "red neck" from the sun.
