pixels are like....ok you know when you see a picture on a website and sometimes its blurry and looks like it has a bunch of squares in it pixels are thousands of these little squares that make up one picture. so the more pixels you have the clearer the picture will be and the less you have the more blurry it will be

The word pixel is a combination of the words "pitcture" and "cell". Each pixel is a "cell" of the the picture. The picture rating known as "ppi" means pixels per square inch. The more pixels per square inch, the higher the resolution of the picture. That means the picture is sharper because there is room for more subtle changes in color to be seen. A picture with a high ppi rating looks smooth, like real life. A low ppi rating causes the picture to look grainy because each pixel then has to perform a bigger duty of filling up more space on the screen. Think of low ppi as Atari and high ppi as X-Box

the word pixel does not come from picture "cell" as the previous guy said, it is from picture ELEMENT.
basicaly each pixel has color and shading information in a square or rectangle and thousands of them put together makes what you see on your computer screen.
