The first Gong Man was boxer "Bombardier" Billy Wells, and later on was depicted by both wrestler/stuntman Phil Niemanin 1947, and he in turn was replaced in the 50's by Ken Richmond, a 1952 Olympic bronze medalist."

There were several, one of them was called Phil - he subsequently opened a barber shop in SW London in the1950s
