try hemming the smaller piece first then sew it onto the bigger piece

is it a square?? place the larger piece on top of the smaller piece,right sides together. start at one corner, matching the edges pushing the top piece towards the presser foot as you sew(this is called easing) keep sewing & pushing the top piece all the way around, keeping track of when to stop pushing so your corners match up. leave approx 4 inches unsewn sew you can turn it right side out, then hand stitch the opening closed

turn all the sides in and pin in place and then pin onto other piece, that's the only way you'll have nice neat edges. good luck
