There is dance called Modern Dance. It mixes two step, minuet, and Quadrilles. But modern dance can be anything from hip-hop to break dancing to jazz. There are new dances out everyday, but they are less popular. Any dance after the 20th century is considered modern dance. Ballroom was one of the first modern dances.

It is difficult to say, because anyone can come up with somehing in their own living room today and say "This is new type of dance, created by me. It is new and popular in my house".

Lambada I guess is pretty new. Hip Hop is older than you think it is, but it became a lot more popular lately. There is a good hip hop reference on ask.com and answers.com if you're interested.
