She has a windows XP and a dial up. Her browser says it's connected but then it will say that the webpage is unavailable. Any one know how to fix that problem?

Could you give us more details?
Try reinstalling the software that came with your ISP.

nb Why not consider changing to broadband? It's the same price as dialup now.

When your cousin uses the dialup option (in Control Panel>Network Connection), it will say if she is connected an icon of a little comptuer will appear near the clock (the system tray). If it doesn't your ousin hasn't connected. Make sure it's not something silly your is not on Work Offline mode. Go to File menu, Work Offline should not ticked\checked.

Test this by going to Start>Run typing: cmd and press enter. In the box, type in: ping www.google.com if your cousin is connected the black box will say something like:

Reply from 64.233.183.104: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.183.104: bytes=32 time=71ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.183.104: bytes=32 time=368ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.183.104: bytes=32 time=333ms TTL=245

That means your cousin is connected.

if iti does not say that, ensure your modem is correctly connected and then:

1) Ensuring she ahs the username and password and telephone to dialin, delete or setup a new internet connection and try again.

2) Go to Control Panel> Add Remove Programs, click Add\Remove Windows Components > Network Services and ensure Simple TCP\IP and Internet Gateway are ticked and try again.

There might be something blocking the web page that she is trying to look at, like netnanny (one of those programs that parents use to try and keep their kids off certain websites) or a firewall program that is not configured right. She should contact the Internet service provider if it happens on all tries. Do you know if she has tried re-installing the ISP connection software? Like if she uses AOL, get one of those free disks from somewhere and re-install it. Might help. Could be that her modem is going bad or not plugged into the phone line right too. Hard to say.

When did the problem begin. Try restoring the computer to a date prior to the problem using system restore option by going to start, accessorys, system tools, system restore.

Choose a date prior to the problem beginning and see if that helps.

Get rid of dial-up. The times have changed.

Uninstall the dial-up and then reinstall it and reestablish the connection. I believe that you have either dleted or damaged one of the componentsw to your internet.
