MONEY: Lack of it, and lack of ability to manage it well.
MATURITY: Lack of it from one or both.
SEX: Lack of fidelity.
HEALTH: Severe illness. Sad but true.
So, if you don't want to experience marital breakdown:
Look at school and study as an opportunity to prepare yourself for a good job that pays good money and affords you the good things in life. That is, try to avoid the alternative, which will leave you unprepared to get a good job, cause you to have to accept poorly paying jobs, feel deprived, turn to crime to try to improve your financial situation, and end up living in jail rather than living the good life.
Learn to act like a mature person rather than a dumb know nothing.
Have sex with your partner rather than your neighborhood.
Eat right and exercise so that you'll live long enough to enjoy life.

My uncle used to tell me... "never marry a person you wouldn't open a business with, as ecentually that is what you are doing in the end."
Marital breakdown is usually due to: money, trust and the lack of people wanting to stay committed and tough it out through the bad times.

As a Pastor I think it stems from a break down in the moral fiber of this great country.
We seem to have reached a point in our development where we think that if it feels good do it.
We no longer accept responsibility for our actions.
The Church has let down an entire generation by preaching sermons that are watered down and white washed.
If the truth offends someone so be it. It's still the truth.
Drugs and there easy accessibility has also contributed to this epidemic.

Communication and honesty.
Usually people can get through big things (like finacial problems or one affair) its the little things that break you down bc people tend to let those build up and not deal with them.

Inadequate preparation for the marriage in the first place.
Relationships take work. Loving each other isn't enough on its own.

Infidelity would probably be the major cause. Money would probably run a close second.
