Aww, someone mentioned the city I was born in... The language they speak is Czech (mainly) -- you've got to be careful where you go (pickpockets and so on) just from what I heard. Don't forget to check the Charles Bridge -- it's a beautiful, historic city. And always ask how much before getting into taxis, before eating, or whatever. The food there is good, and somewhat different. Try their soup, it's yummy! Ah, I never forget about that big round clock, if I remember it being blue -- check it out, too. :) Good luck. By the way, their second language isn't Russian (from what I know), it's Slovak, or English, but some Russian, yes. If you can't afford hotels, try hostels. Oh, by the way, other places to look at: St. Vitus Cathedral and Hradcany, Old Town, Mala Strana. Old town Square information Centre for visitors Tel.: 236-002-562.

I was there just after the velvet revolution. Then they still had the old communist mentallity that they could sit around all day doing nothing and still get paid for it. But basically it is a lovely place. Just be careful of the taxi drivers. They have meters but they are able to change the rate that the meter clocks. You will almost certainly be ripped off by your taxi from the airport, but after that don't get into a taxi without enquiring first how much it is going to cost. Travel by public transport as much as you can. Cheap and efficient.
They do not speak German. While I was there I met just one German speaker. The younger people can speak some English. The second language is Russian.
The national drink is beer. They even take bottles in to work with them. It is excellent stuff.
PS For what they are the hotels are expensive.

Only thing I know is they speak German, their buildings are nice, and they drink their tequila with oranges and cinnamon instead of limes and salt.
