Boot camp is boot camp! It really depends on the the instructor that will be assigned to you.
Some are sadists go just about the limit to hurt you and punish you. Others are a little nicer and
will motivate you without trying to kill you while you are under his command.

Because of a few boot camp intructors, some soldiers have gone A.W.O.L., some have been
killed due to excessive force, and even some
boot camp instructors have been beaten or killed by many in the platoon for revenge. This is
very ,very, rare and you do not hear much about it! Most drill instructors (99.9%) do a great job. You are not supposed to like your D.I. and you are not supposed to like basic training.

It serves only one purpose- to get you to follow orders without question!

When the sargeant says "take that hill" you don't think about it, you just do it, even if it's a suicide mission.

There are some good movies on the history, discovery, and military channels. Ronald Reagan narrated some good movies for the war department during the 2nd world war.

A good movie is "The D. I. starring Jack Webb
which was made in 1957 and it's sold on dvd.

Full Metal Jacket is Marine Corps boot camp, not Army. There is a huge difference.

Although its set during the VietNam era, Tiger Land is a good one. And, while its about the Marines, Full Metal Jacket is a GREAT movie about boot camp.

No

If it is just for laughs Renaissance Man or Private Benjamin.

For an actual glimpse of real boot camp, there is nothing remotely close.

If, however, it's REALISTIC that you're after then check out the Military Channel via cable or satellite feed. They show contemporary examples of boot camps.

Stripes had a good depiction of basic, but it was still weak compared to the real thing.
