Pretty much all working days. Though they do have some halfdays too.

You can go to one of the index websites and see as well.

Nyse.com, cboe.com and so on.

5 days a week for 52 weeks = 260

I think the NYSE is closed for 9 major holidays. Therefore, the market is open approximately 251 days a year.
