How about bookmarks?
Hand made Calenders?
The best thing you can do for male pensioners is ask them what it was like when they were young.
How about talking to them?

Depends on the ageof the primary children - all ages could make a picture for either male or female - the older generation love them and for the children to explain the scene. Another good idea is some home made sweets - again would be much appreciated by either male or female.
A decorated box in which you could put the hand made sweets and that could be used afterwards would also be a possibility.
You could also print off some uplifting quotes and get the children to add a decorative boarder - this would be a lovely keepsake of the children's visit.
There is hand-made soap bars, again these could be put in the box. Some bath salts in a decorative bag.
Another idea would be a small ornament made in fimo - such as a Teddy, bird etc. etc.
You could put on a musical presentation of some sort to entertain them.
Good luck with whatever you decide - am sure your visit will be much appreciate by the residents as they love to see the younger generation.

If you have cedar chips you can make pot pourri bags for the men. Cedar has a nice aroma and can go in their dressers or in their closests.
You could make magnets or something similar. Use craft foam and magnet pieces.
If the kids can do origami, there are a lot of books out there with neat patterns they can do. If you have a public library nearby, check it out.

Felt eye glass holders. They can be made no-sew. Cut 2 pieces of felt in different colors about about 6"x6" and run a bead of fabric glue around the perimeter of one piece and carefully lay the other on top forming a sandwich. The glue dries quickly. Then fold the sandwich in half and run the fabric glue along one short and one long edge to form a lined pouch for eye glasses. If you can find out the initials of the gents in advance, you can personalize them. I have worked in many nursing homes and glasses are always getting lost because they don't have holders ,much less ones that identify the owners. Bless you for caring about the elderly!!

Hand-made playing cards!
The male pensioners could play things like Snap, Memory, Old Maid etc.
All they would have to do is draw pictures (two of each) onto small pieces of card: any picture they like - it could even be collage, I guess.
Have fun, whatever you decide.

I agree 100% with 'Todd' get the children to talk to them!!
That is what they would like more than any woollen mufflers or gloves, company and some one new to talk to and take an interest in them!!
Very good answer!!

My grandad absolutely loved mints so perhaps a load of peppermint creams each.
My grandad always had a tube of mints everywhere you looked (fireplace, tv stand, kitchen, bedroom, windowsills)

My grandfather always used to love home made toffee - not that he had any teeth, but he enjoyed slowly letting it melt into his mouth.
