What have you used and how well has it held up?

I have used accrylic, which seems to work really well.

Since it tends to get chalky, you need to hose it down well first. Let it dry for a couple days unless it's hot out then one day will suffice. Use a high grade exterior latex enamel with a roller with 3/4 to 1" nap. Roll sideways to avoid paint runs.
