Read in the Bible I Corinthians chapter 13. It tells you what love really is and what it isn't. First of all, if he is always seeking his own way, etc., then he isn't practicing love. Another thing, love is patient. If he really loves you, you both can wait a while before marrying. There is a saying, "If love dies, it wasn't love in the first place" and another that says, "Marry in haste, reap in leisure." If he isn't willing to wait until you really know each other, then it isn't love. True love can always wait a while and will.

I don't think it's a stretch to think that it is unhealthy for most relationships to go THAT fast. I used to act very much like your guy and I have a good idea what might be going through his mind. He may be insecure or naturally a lonely guy and really needs the security and love that a you and a family would provide. What I know now from my own experiences is that you have to let a relationship grow for a little while and let the true dynamics of the relationship reveal themselves before you risk taking such a step forward. There is a very good chance that he really does love you. Just take it slow enough that you can tell for sure that he isn't just clinging on to the first promising thing that comes his way and fulfills his needs.
