If your just starting out though go electric, because you make progress easier. Once you get good enough on electric then you can make a switch to acoustic.

I have an acoustic-electric guitar, it has so many advantages I mean you can play acoustic work and electric, but with acoustic electrics you have to be very careful with your choice of effects, very limited on that area because these guitars were conceived thinking of a more clean sound, they're great for jazz, blues and to play certain parts of a song to create some kind of atmosphere, they don't really sound good with heavy distortion or added reverb, most of them have a built in reverb system.. its worth buying one, but then you have to experiment what effects you can use and the choice of amp.. I usually use marshalls but not with that one.. it doesn't sound too good to be honest

Good Luck and let us know how it went when you get it

Cheers

I have an acoustic-electric bass. This type of guitar doesn't need an amplifier. You can still use one if you want to but it doesn't require one. The electronics on the side of the guitar control how you want it to sound. For instance, my acoustic-electric bass has a volume knob, bass, mid, treble, and presence buttons on the side. So basically, you have an amplifier built into the guitar.

The advantages would be..you can get the authentic acoustic sound, playing unplugged or you can plug in to an acoustic amp and have the same sound, just louder..

The disadvantages..well, I can't really think of any..

the advantage is that say you need to play a song that uses acoustic...later you need to play one that uses electric...this way you won't have to spend money on two different guitars
