Not all women have major pains. Sometimes women who have miscarriagies don't even realize it.

Depends how far along you were. My first was at 5 weeks and it was no worse than a typical period. The next 4 were 7-11 weeks and each took around 12 hours to complete and similar to labor. If you are planning a natural miscarriage, good idea to ask your doctor for a few doses of a narcotic to take the edge off just in case. The pain is almost unbearable.
Many women are mentioning that they only had a bit of spotting. It is true that spotting can be a precursor to a miscarriage, but the actual process of miscarriage itself is generally very bloody and painful.

Well, it would be incorrect to say "all" about anything, especially anything associated with pregnancy. The most common signs and symptoms of miscarriage are:
Vaginal bleeding that may be light or heavy, constant or irregular. Although bleeding is often the first sign of a miscarriage, first-trimester bleeding may also occur with a normal pregnancy. Bleeding with pain, however, is a sign that miscarriage is more likely.
Pain. You may have pelvic cramps, abdominal pain, or a persistent, dull ache in your lower back. Pain may start a few hours to several days after bleeding has begun.
Blood clots or grayish (fetal) tissue passing from the vagina

No. I had 3 miscarriages before having my son and I had no cramping at all, just spotting. That is why it is important to talk to your doctor at any time during pregnancy when there is bleeding/spotting.

Some women give birth without ever knowing they are pregnant so I think it is safe to say that some would have major pains and others would feel next to nothing.

When I miscarried, I had alot of pain. Worse than period cramps!! But that is because, you're getting rid of what the body was preparing. So, yeah, it pretty much causes pain. Alot of pain!!
