Look at your motherboard specification and see if you could upgrade to a better CPU. You can certaintly add more RAM, better video card, faster Hard drive. Your computer might be slow because of spyware and adware. Check for spyware, adware and remove them. It also helps alittle bit if you defrag the hard drive.

The very best thing you can do is add memory. That is the least expensive and easiest to do. Now you must be able to run more memory but the book on your motherboard will tell you. I also suggest buying all the same kind and putting it in as you may be able to sell the old to a friend.
Next would be to change the CPU chip again only if your board can be expanded. Finally I would compare the price of replacement parts to a new computer with the speed you want and make your choice.

A jet engine?
Seriously... Without more information on what kind of system you have and what you want it to be fast at, no one can provide a meaningful answer. However... in most cases you can speed up your system significantly with hardware. First, memory. More memory will help your system seem faster by reducing the number of times it has to go to the disk drive. Second, a fast disk drive for those times your computer cannot avoid accessing it. Third, if you're a gamer or graphic artist, a faster video card can make a huge difference. Finally, you can often upgrade your entire motherboard/CPU/RAM assembly to much faster units.
Before you spend money on hardware, though, clean up your Operating system. There are many good sites concerning tweaking Windows. Yahoo! search is our friend in this respect. Turn off unneccessary services (like the indexer), disable programs that load on boot, etc.

It can only be as fast as the processor was designed to run! You can sometimes upgrade memory but it won't set the world on fire with results! If you want "fast" you have to buy top of the line equipment designed to run "fast"!

Add memory and keep it 'clean'. Adding memory is the cheapest way to improve performance in any computer.

Well....if its really old, just get a new one. Otherwise just reinstall windows. (and remember to clear off all of the programs that you never use that always run such as quicktime, or others like it)

It depends how fast is your processor, if you add more RAM that will help.
