Tons of example problems. If you can do one, you should be able to recognize similar problems. This is what problems from the textbook are based on.

Having it explained in several ways helps, because everyone learns differently. A good professor or friend can do that for you.

There's also a website that you can pay for the answers to math problems from a ton of different textbooks. That may earn you a decent grade in math, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't learn it at this level, you can't go higher.

I also recommend on campus resources, such as study groups, tutors, workshops, and whatever is offered. A lot are free. Check with the math department.

Good luck!

People fear math because if you miss one thing, it is hard to catch up. This isn't true of subjects like History or English. If you miss a lesson on the 16th century, you can still learn about the 17th century. If you miss a lesson on Romeo & Juliette, you can still understand Hamlet.

But if you don't learn Algebra, you won't be able to learn Calculus.

The way to do well in math is to do as many problems as you can & to ask questions when you have problems understanding it. If you learn each step well, then learning the next step isn't so hard.
