I have a Siemens Laptop. It has been behaving strangely these days. It started by suddenly shutting down automatically. Then it wouldn't start up. But after I stroked its underside and then pressed the Power it turned on. Then after working fine for a few days today I found it not turning on in the first place. Again I did the same and it turned on. But after I'd turned it off and kept it for a few hours It won't turn on. Again I stroked it, it turned on but after a while it turned off automatically. Now it's hanging up after a few minutes of startup. What could be the problem?

It is pretty obvious that it is a hardware problem.

Is it under warranty ? If it is you are better off taking it to the service center
If it is not under warranty , you can try a few things.
Most of these laptops have their memory card at the base. There is a possibility of that coming off loose and hence this problem. In any case, flip the laptop. Access the memory card, remove and put it back.
Next step would be to take out the hard disk and plug it back in.
Do the same for your cd drive.
All the stuff I mentioned above are simple and can be done at home. Check out your laptop manual or website for the procedure.
The design of laptops might be different but the hard disk, memory.cd drive and network cards etc can easily be accessed. The usual problem will be a loose contact due to vibration or shock. If it is not in any of the components I mentioned above, then you are left with the motherboard $$$$$ . Lets hope it is not that. Good luck ;)

I detect a hardware problem and it is because you are using a laptop I don't suggest to open it by yourself... If it is under warranty better contact the vendor or manufacturer from where you bought it.. Let them fix your hardware problem and use your warranty. If your beyond warranty period better get a Computer Technician which can fix it and knows what's his doing...

a clear case of battery overuse. You have to get your battery either speedcharged or replaced. The dock is working fine but the output power is not transferred from the battery to the dc~ input. Your battery has weakened or gone dead.

maximum laptop issues are with the difficult force. Even the little "drop" of a million/2 inch each and every time you place it on a table can bring about HD failure. pass on your XP help and click on "hardship Shoot concern". in any different case, take it to technician for restoration.

It may be overheating. Check the fans and see if they are moving or not full of dust. You can take it to a repair shop and get it cleaned out for fairly cheap.

If that only happens on battery power, check your battery seating. Does it also do that with the AC power cable attached?
