For the possibility of one day becoming happy and content with life. Unhappiness doesn't last your entire life, just like happiness, life is full of ups and downs.

change is constant, so 'even this will pass' is the guiding principle - a person deciding to take their life has to assume that things are not going to get better - which is an unfounded assumption - in fact, contrary to sense, when things are constantly oscillating between better and worse

you dont know what is hidden round the corner

crisis can be healthy, precipitating making a bigger change, opening up to different avenues of hope - giving up some of our working assumptions that we have forgotten are assumptions not truths

do you KNOW that there isnt a person on the planet who can open your 'eyes' up to another 'dimension' of life? - no - you dont know, you have made a working assumption, based on likelihood - when the more likely possibilities are exhausted, it is time to check out some of the seemingly less likely, not just throw in the game as hopeless

if a person is feeling like not carrying on, why not try something drastic, but less drastic than suicide - like going outside the ego, and doing something 'you' wouldnt 'normally' do - like walking through africa or india -

commit semi-suicide by throwing yourself out of your comfortzone - if comfort is killing you slowly, try a little discomfort

a change is as good as a death

dont use religion, use sense

When a person finds religion, it gives them a reason to live and a purpose for life. There are several types of religion, but an individual has to find the truth. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Situations change; but once a life is taken, there is no coming back.

that person may have others out there that care for them that it could hurt . i fought depression and in my eyes had all the reasons to not go on but i realized theres people it could hurt like my kids and did i really do all i could to try and fix the things that are causeing the pain. picking up the phone and talking to someone is the first step i took. and it wasnt the thought of going to hell stopping me from self destruct but my own personal resons that i found from a little review & revise. religion played no part and i have religeous beliefs

because that person means the world to many and does not realize it. Sometimes we feel like we have no purpose but God made us for a reason, it may take years to find out what it is but it is there all along. Also you have to look for the good, not just the bad, and some people get on a roll and all they can see is bad, if that happens they need a change in atmosphere maybe ie: new friends, new adventures, new church..........new relationships. good luck

If he is not religious then religion has no part what so ever in the answer.

What if a person knew the deep unhappy was going to probably end in 5 years?
Permanant solutions should not be applied to temporary problems.

Religion makes a lot of people feel secure. It makes me feel that way, at least. Deep unhappieness with life doesen't last forever. Something will come along that'll make that person happy again. Lifes' just like that. The feeling of "not carrying" on is just temporary.

Depends on when in life and in what circumstance one fines ones self. There may still be things to be done and if you are not near the end of life, tomorrow may change everything for there is hope that things will change. When you get near the end of life expectancy, you usually have developed a curiosity about life and enjoy waiting around to see what comes next.

There are almost always other people who care about you. Often there are other people who depend on you, such as a child. To not carry on is usually an act of cowardice, not an act of strength. Sometimes it is intended to hurt someone who is "left behind" - but it cannot be guaranteed to work, that person can just go on with their life. Lastly, you cannot escape the idea that as you "leave" you will regret the decision to do so, but it will be too late.

Is happiness the only thing that matters when religion is gone?

Happiness is a transient state, like the weather. If you step back and see life in its fullness, you will see that it is beautiful. It's worth living for. Living is not a means to an end--it is its own end.
