I wouldn't. I'd get a new one. Like, ASAP. I wouldn't want to expose more than I should.

Ok, here's my suggestion:
If you truly believe that swimsuit brings you luck, then by all means WEAR IT!!! I know what confidence (or the lack of it) can do to a person.
BUT go ahead and get another swimsuit and wear it on top of you old one. Some of the girls on my swim team wear 2 swimsuits.

To prevent the swimsuit from breaking down sooner than it is suppose to (all swimsuit will break down, just a matter of how fast), ALWAYS hand wash it. I swim 5 days/week for about an hr each time and I'll just rinse it with tap water and hang it to dry. Of course it also depends on the material. I'd suggest a swimsuit from speedo, nike, or champion. I wore those and they lasted longer than my other ones.

First of all I work at an upper class swim suit store and a lot of people come in and ask us about that. Sounds like you swim a lot and speed makes a really thick durable suit. So the suit you have now sounds really bad and probably should be thrown away, but for future refrence when you buy a suit buy swim cleaner because a lot people use Woolite and that breaks down the lycra and also can make the suit fade and look really fuzzy. Also do not use a washer or dryer to clean your suit, it's really bad and the heat from the dryer is just as bad as using woolite. I suggest you get some swim cleaner you can find it at any local bathing suit store, mix a cap full with cold water and let it soak in sink and then after let it air dry. Your suit will keep it's color and it's soft gentle feel, plus save you money so you're not out there buying a new suit every month...:)

If you are a competitve swimmer, keep it, AND buy a new one. Yes the one you have is breaking down and with enough wear, will tear and rip in places. As a former competitve swimmer for 15 years this is what I advise based on personal experience:

Wear the new suit UNDER the old suit (not over the top as the suit breaks down the residue flakes in the suit will stick to your body) This is important because the old suit is worn out, stretched, and creates drag. So put it to that use, extra drag in practice is a great training aid. No better than a falling apart suit. When it rips big enough, tie and not the two pieces together. I believe I hung on to a suit long enough to have a total of 8 knots and it looked like it had gone through a lawn mower.

Now to prevent breakdown, it's impossible. Competitive swimmers put too much time in a pool to prevent it. You can delay it by doing three things. First, when you buy your suit, soak it in a mixature of vinegar and water for about three hours. This sets the color to hold it in the material longer. (rinse and hang to dry). 2. After every workout, rinse your suit in clean water. I would rinse at the pool then take it home and rinse it again, soak it in fresh water, and rinse again. Always hang to dry and never wring out the excess water as this will cause your suit to stretch. Never use detergent and don't waste money on suit cleansers, fresh water can do the job just fine.

there's no way to prevent swimsuits from breaking down. after a year or two, your swimsuit will just get worn out from practice. it's best not to wear the suit in competition. it can slow you down because it is worn out. also, it would be disturbing to a lot of people if it's see-through. however, you can still wear it as a drag suit in practice if you like. a drag suit is an old swimsuit that you wear over another one in practice to create more drag as you're swimming.

It shouldn't break, but if it is see-through it isn't attractive. Unless it is in a spot that is very recognizable then most people might not see it though, i've had that trouble before. You can't prevent them from wearing out, they all will eventually. Making sure to soak it in cold water after you are done to get the chlorine out of it will help though. Maybe you shouldn't wear it to meets anymore, but you could always wear it over OR under another suit if you like it so much.

No, The chlorine has eaten it. If you wear it chances are it will slow you down because it will create drag in the water. If you muxt wear it under your new suit and you will still have the confidence. I dont think that it will break though. I have never heard of a suit breaking before. GoodLuck!!

You definitely SHOULD NOT wear a flimsy suit to a meet. If it is already breaking through, I am assuming that it is very loose on you. Bad idea if you have a meet. Your suit is supposed to be super tight on you. The best way to prevent your suit from becoming see through is by washing it with cold water right after you take it off. And don't shower with it on. Shampoo wears out the fabric.

If you dont mind it being see through, than wear it. It shouldn't break. As for the second question, there are solutions to keep your suits from breaking down. Just rinsing it with it with water should get the chlorine off and keep it from breaking down though.
