Absolutely. I find it a little distasteful that he decided to say such things, even if he was just quoting an emperor. Being as such an influential globe leader, I would have expected better.
He does however reserve the right to say what he feels necessary and deems to be worthy of projecting to the entire world.
In addition, I truly wish the response from the global muslim community was not so violent; all that does is to make us appear as a hateful, ignorant people and proves the pope 100% correct in his statement. I am highly disappointed at the way that muslim community has chosen to react. We already are taking the heat from the image protrayed upon us by the handful of insane fundamentalists (who truly are not muslims and are simply lunatics). Shame on us, we should know better. Thank you for asking such an open minded question.

Of course they respect, but what if one of them says christians are all idiots and Pope is homosexual? What would be christians reaction to something like that? Do they respect the freedom of speech?
You got my point? If it is freedom of speech, they have done soem speech! Why some people get upset about it?

The Pope is not a Muslim, hence he must have realized that there is nothing like freedom of speech in Islam , any negative comment about the initiator of Islam is viewed with trepidation by Muslims, freedom of speech not withstanding.

I want to see how many Muslims answer your question, and will bet that very few do. They're busy doing other things. And good law-abiding people or terrorists, they won't let you into their society or into their minds.

As for respecting the Pope's freedom of speech, I'll bet their radicals are trying to hire hit man Ali Agca right now, to see if he can do a better job on Pope Benedict than he did on John Paul II.

Interesting response from "Seyi A", a relative newcomer and a WELCOME one. Thanks for letting us in on a little of your culture. I won't be joining your mosque soon if there's no free speech. We worked pretty hard and spiiled a lot of blood to gain that right. Please come on back and talk with us any time.
