Even if we buy the more expencive stuff, it chips off. Should I sand down her nail a bit to help it grab hold of the polish?

After the nail varish is dry paint a coat of clear nail varnish over the top

It protects the colour form chipping or peeling

after you do her nails always put a clear top coat on. Also if nails are long enough, paint the underside of the tip of nail with polish. Also have her hold the tips of fingers in a bowl of cold water. This sets the polish. Follow these tips and the polish will last much longer.

You should not file the natural nail. Try using OPI Base Coat (it goes on the natural nail to help hold the color on and prevents nails from becoming stained from the polsh) After the base coat drys apply your color and than follow w/ OPI Top Coat.

Good Luck

dont sand her nails, just buy a top coat layer, the colored layer, then a clear layer on top of it and it will NOT chip.
