Karo syrup used to contain botulism spores and many infants died from this. I personally would not give it to my baby. The manufacturer of Karo now says they have taken steps to prevent botulism but it can't be guaranteed and they will not be responsible if a child should become ill from the syrup. I would try glycerin suppostories instead.

Karo syrup is an old wives tale about helping to cure everything from gas to colic for babies. Some people say that it works really well. I for one have never used it, but a lot of mothers have. I would always talk to your doctor about this before using it. There is such a high concentration of sugar that it may not be a good idea for a baby.

Greetings!
In the old days people used karo syrup which is just a dark corn syrup like molasses. This would settle the upset stomach of a baby and aid in the treatment of colic. It works in much that if given warm it well settle their stomach enough so as they can dose off to more than likely give you a much needed break.
Good Luck

If the baby isn't constipated it will cause diarrhea. My doctor had me add a tablespoon of Karo syrup to my daughters bottle when she was constipated and it worked quite well! If your baby has a stomach ache you can get a piece of peppermint candy and break it up a little and put it in your baby's water bottle. Peppermint is a natural way to remedy a stomach ache. I've seen this work with a baby before.

Yes you can give it to a fussy baby or to a baby that is constipated. My son had colic, so i used to give him Karo mixed with warm water quite often. About a Tablespoon to a 8oz. bottle of water or so does the trick. But definitely use the Light Karo NOT the Dark Karo syrup. Karo is just the brand name for corn syrup, so if you can't find Karo, look for another brand of corn syrup.

Yes, I have heard of Karo syrup. It comes in light and dark colors. You find it on the sugar aisle at the grocery store. I use it quite often in baking. It is the syrup used-and main ingredient other than pecans-to make pecan pies. Have I ever used it for a fussy baby? Yes, when my daughter had problems with her bowel movements. Did it work? Yes. You only need ONE TEASPOON full of it in either a bottle of water or formula or breast milk.
My daughter's pediatrician suggested it also. Not sure what it does, but it does help a bowel movement.
I know people who use it when their baby wont drink water. It sweetens it a bit. But it is not like a full blown sugar attack like giving your baby Kool-aid or something. You can even taste it. It is a light sweet taste, very light.

I have never heard of Karo syrup for a fussy baby but mt grandmother always said it was good mixed with the babys formula for constipation. I have a 3 week old baby and when he fusses I swaddle him in a blanket and I lay on the bed and nurse him or just cuddle with him and it calms him right down. Good Luck!!!!!

Karo syrup is corn syrup. Once in a blue moon I use it to make a really horrible dessert that my husband likes but shouldn't eat. I wouldn't dream of giving it to my baby - the stuff is pure sugar.

I've never heard of giving it to fuzzy babies but i have had nurses tell me it works for constipation. however, alot of doctors prefer that mothers don't give them anything until their 9-12 months. if u do decide to use Karo syrup for constipation, make sure u use no more than a drop of the clear syrup not the dark.
