america started out democratic republic and lasted as long as the founding fathers knew, and said, it would - until wealth concentrated well outside the limits of justice - ie until over-wealth/power and under-wealth/power became blatant - over 100 years ago - from the beginning, the american sandcastle has been washing away - without americans even knowing to stiffen the walls with justice

the narrowness, or breadth, of range of pay per unit of work is a measure of how far along the line from

democracy/ freedom/ equality/ fraternity/ peace/ order/ goodness/ safety/ happiness/ economic health

to

tyranny/ fascism/ plutocracy/ warmongering/ corruption/ evil/ violence [war & crime]/ slavery/ wageslavery/ danger/ cannonfoddering/ terrorism [state and private]/ economic decay

a nation or society is

we humans, in our little effort to have a society, have got pay per fortnight's work from $1 [one dollar] to $1,000,000,000 [one billion dollars] - from 1000th [thousandth] to a million [1,000,000] times world average hourly pay

ie, as deep into nightmare as you can get

and there is no sign of us waking - no sign of understanding that we can wake

we are POSITIVE that limitless injustice is the true path to happiness - we have a blind faith about it - we will beat up anyone who says different - we can justify the present super-extreme level of injustice - but we dont want anyone mentioning the super-extreme level of injustice, all the same

never mind that a person who is confident he is right has no desire to beat up people who disagree - never mind that desire to beat up disagreers is proportional to lack of confidence in one's opinion

but some people, many people, think that opinions are little medals you wear, and anyone who attacks your medals is attacking you - these people just do not get that opinions are essays of the truth, provisional guesses - that you are totally dependent on reality for happiness - that you are supposed to submit your opinions to the discipline of correspondence to reality, that they are not just medals for ego presentation - these people are certain of the existence of ego, they are just not half as certain about the existence of reality

in short, truth is sunk, happiness is sunk, goodbye

There are a few different categories that the US would fall under. Most people could say that the US is a democracy, according to the experts, our government is a "Representative Democracy". Although I have seen a variety of different labels like democratic republic, republic, democracy, federal republic, etc. A representative democracy is one where we elect officials, which then make the laws. A direct democracy is where the sovereignty of the government is controlled directory by the citizens, if representatives exist in a direct democracy, they would only serve to relay the exact will of the citizens.

The U.S. system has never changed too much since late 1700s. Right now it is a democratic republic.
