If you're talking about face powder, it's primary purpose is to "set" the foundation, to make your face appear more smooth & to keep the makeup in place.

What is best for you depends on your complexion. Foundation covers more pigment flaws or discoloration. I have freckles on my face but not I don't have acne. Therefore, I use a cake foundation from Merl Norman after my moisturizer. I finish it off with a good light loose powder. I also pull the make-up down my neck just a little b/c that evens out my skin tone in the transition. You always want to take your make-up all the way to your ears and forehead.. there is nothing more silly looking than a woman with a mask on..Powder only is better for people who just want a smooth finished look but don't need a cover up technique. Powder keeps your skin from appearing oily or shady..

Foundation is the liquid make-up that you use to cover blemishes and even out your skin tones. Powder is used afterwards to pat on top of the foundation to keep it from looking shiny. However, there are some brands that combine the foundation and powder together. I use both foundation and powder and I am happy with the result. Don't use a foundation that is too dark or light for your skin and put it on light so you don't look like an orange-faced clown.

Powder foundation will give you a matte look (best for oily skin), while liquid foundation will give you a dewy look (best for dry skin). Powders usually provide heavier coverage than liquid does. If you're afraid of a thick or "fake" look, try a tinted moisturizer. Revlon Age Defying Light Makeup is a great choice, and it's inexpensive. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new products, that's the best way to find what's perfect for YOUR skin. Hope this helps :)

Depends on your needs. A powder is generally used to give a matt finish. A foundation comes in a variety of tints and varieties. It is used to even out skin tone. Use one that suits your skin tone and type. The best thing that I found is to get on of the free makeovers from the high-end cosmetic counters. They'll inform you about what works for you...then you can go and get the lower priced products which work just as well.

Well foundation gives more coverage and powder is more of a light coat just to make it look smoother. You can use both though! put on foundation first and then lightly dust over with powder to create a flawless finish!

foundation not blended well will make you look silly- so makesure you dont have a line at your chin! also- it can be hard to match and clogs your skin and makes ya feel a little greasy. it does look really good though if it is applied well. in order not to feel so greasy and weighed down, i wear a light powder and usually a bronzer &/or blush everyday.. then on the weekend nights when i usually go out to parties or bars, i wear foundation and a little powder or blush or bronzer.. i can deal with it a few times a week, and it looks really good, i just don't like putting it on everyday because it takes longer and feels heavy and unnatural

powder is kind of a finishing look, foundation evens out your tone more. which is better depends on your skin, if you have dry skin, most powders will not look to great, but if you have oily skin they can be great alone or over foundation to help "seal" the look.

powder is used to give a finished look after foundation is applied...it can also be used alone....NEVER buy a powder with a color to it; color on color always goes darker...ALWAYS buy translucent powder; this has no color and looks great with a foundation....invest in a good fluffy brush (sometimes called blusher brushes) your local art store may have one a little less expensive; at any rate, always get natural bristle brushes and keep them clean!!!!!!!!! swirl your brush in the powder or the little insert that it comes with, then tap a few times to get the exess off; then lightly apply powder with DOWNWARD strokes starting at the forehead, and all over the face;;; this lays down all the little hairs that look awful if they stand up!! wait a few seconds, then take the same brush with no powder and go over it again, for that 'polished' look...........good luck!!
