I have just been told that the lass who won the Maria competition is not playing the part any more - is this true? or is it more media spin?

No.Someone called Emma Williams dramatically withdrew from the musical. Ms Williams was the alternate to Connie Fisher, winner of the vomitous BBC TV programme How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?
She had been officially contracted to share the role and do four performances a week, but that was later reduced to two. When booking tickets, people were asking to see 'that girl who won from the telly'.
So her part in the production had been totally downgraded, she told friends how she felt humiliated and belittled by some involved with the show. Lloyd Webber, for one, had described her in an interview , as an 'understudy' when, in point of fact, she was the alternate - meaning she had been contracted, to the tune of £2,000 a week, to do specific performances as Maria in place of Ms Fisher.
Ms Williams had been hired in the first place as a sort of safety net because, at that point, the director and producers had no idea what kind of Maria they would end up with. Anyway, Ms Williams is not continuing with the show and won't be at rehearsals on Monday. Connie Fisher, said during "Maria" that she could do eight shows a week,so now thats exactly what they are expecting of her!!!!!!!!!!!

She never was going to play it. It was all a big con from start to finish. This con was exposed in the Times some weeks back but not many people took too much notice of it.

Apparently that little creep Abdrew LL oyd Webber had already cast someone to play the part of Maria even before the competition got underway. And that the person who won the competition would be her understudy. So I would imagine that if the story of Connie resigning is true then that would possibly be the reason behind her resignation.

Graham Norton apparently knew this was going to happen and was disgusted with it all and could not wait to leave the show.

Dirty tricks campaign! And poor wee Lassie. eh. But perhaps at the end of the day shes best out of it all.

No it is not the one who won the part, it is the woman who was sharing the part with her for the production.
