I heard a myth about Child Support, and i need to figure it out. It's for a class project:

A man is court ordered to pay 300.00 a month in Child Support. I know what happens if the man doesnt pay any child support. But, is it true that if he only pays a portion of what he is ordered each month, (for example, 50.00), that he wont get into trouble because it is an attempt to pay? Will the man get into trouble for only paying a portion of it? MUST he pay all of what he is ordered each month? What happens if he doesnt pay the FULL amount each month?

Thanks!

He should be paying the full amount. He will get in trouble for not paying it all. May not be as bad as if he wasnt paying anything but he would get a court order to appear in front of the judge to explain why he isnt paying the full amount

My you are a very polite questioner. If he only pays a portion, the remainder goes into the amount owed column. He never gets out of paying it, it doesn't matter if the child is 33, if he owes it, he owes. So it's smarter for him to pay as much as he can if not all of it.

Usually the court order will include a automatic deduction from the persons pay check.

he must pay all of it each month. If he only pays part of it, he just gets futher behind each month and this adds up to his back debt on this. And if he gets too far behind, they can arrest him or suspend his licence.
