It was the stable hand played by Richard Jaekal, can't remember what he went by though, you're talking about 'Sylvia' right ? No Albert didnt' father the kid, just wanted to save her from a life of shame by marrying her when he fell in love with her.

I didn't see the episode last night but if it is the one where Sylvia and Albert fall in love and she has to be taken to the doctor's I think then it was because the stable man had raped her and she didn't tell anybody (especially her father because he abused her) about the rape and ended up pregnant. I think they baby was killed/ or dies but I don't remember that far back. Anyway they didn't get together for one reason or another.
