Of course you do, and it was sick. It sickened many Americans, and the international community.

But now many conservatives want the same thing for our enemies?

It seems the capacity for hypocracy among the right wing fanatics is limitless. The North Vietnamese were evil because they tortured our soldiers. At the time, we justified our war in Vietnam in part because we were different than them, we had moral values and acted on them.

Now we hear the call for torture from our right wing government. Even if it extracts a true confession (evidence is that it doesn't work) is it really worth the loss of any moral coherency in our foreign policy?

The US used to be a place that other nations and peoples turned to as a symbol of what is right. Now, we are just another evil power (and oil) hungry nation willing to do anything at all, no matter how vile, to preserve our wasteful way of life.

We need to do everything we can to get the evil doers out of office and start acting with moral authority again. If we succeed, the first thing our new president will need to do is appologize for the evil done in our name.

The question is do you neocons remember Vietnam and how Americans were tortured in captivity? Why do you ask only neocons. Are you afraid that none of the commislamists will remember any of that? Yes, I remember. I also remember how many of our troops that were in captivity of the Japanese and Germans in WW 2 were mistreated. The whole question on torture, that was resolved in our government this past week was CLARIFICATION. The Geneva Convention definitions were so vague that our CIA thought they should have the vagueness removed. As a matter of fact, torture is a vague word. Where you wimps may say that torture is putting a prisoner in a room with a temperature of 35 degrees and forcing him to listen to music by "Red Hot Chili Peppers" is torture, most all people with any brains would say it was a very mild form of coercion. Comprendo?

That seems to be a hard point to get over to so many people. The group now that are so blood thirst and gung ho for torture have no concept of what it does to a society to stoop to that level of inhumanity. If a person commits the worst crime imaginable, it is not civilized to to repeat it , that's why we have the rule of law and ethics.
Our Country once was among the most respected in the world. Now with our Administration, we have tarnished the image of this land we love. If our violations of international law and our abandonment of ethics continue, we'll be in the same league with the lowest of the low.

I'm not sure if Iraq isn't an attempt to erase Vietnam from their memories. Conservatives suffer from the same delusion all people of strong conviction have. They KNOW they are right, without one shred of doubt. That's what allows them to torture people and ignore the Constitution. Just listen to how they talk. "Why are you protecting terrorists?" and "You must love bin laden!" and my favorite "why do you care if you have nothing to hide?" when liberals object to wire-tapping.

In their black and white world of absolute right and wrong, ANY consideration for the opposition or for due process of law is siding with the enemy. As is any level of human compassion for those who hate us.

It is not my responsible to suggest what USA should do especially a nation which believe in democracy, freedom of speech and liberty. Clear own mess before clear others.

yes we should torture if there is already evidence connecting the suspect to terrorist activity , why do you care about these people's feelings ? I believe in an eye for an eye , if we don't then we have a disadvantage , giving them the advantage . war is like picking flowers in a field on a spring day , it is brutal . also I agree with john skerry III

They only remember what they want to remember. It's just insane. Torture is torture no matter what side you're on.

Let me see if I get this straight. The VC tortured prisoners. The Islamofascists torture and behead prisoners. So if we make nice and treat prisoners with respect, with absolutely no interrogation techniques applied, the Islamofascists will follow suit and not do those terrible nasty things, right? Good grief, what kind of a dream world do you live in?
