I would ask questions that are not so usual that they have been asked before. For example, if they could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would they go and why. Or if they could meet anyone famous, dead or alive, who would they like to meet. The answers cannot really be practiced so you get a genuine insight into what the person is really like.

Get a little background information. Ask what they feel makes them "qualified" for the position they've applied for. Any special skills or training?
Depends on what kind of job you're interviewing for...
