it could just be losing hair b/c of molting... if there are white specks were the rabbit is losing hair it could also be fur mites

Your best bet on this one is a trip to the vet. Rabbits are prone to all kinds of skin issues (especially this time of year as it starts to cool off) that can lead to hair loss. It could be the result of a molt, but usually they don't shed when they're building up a winter coat. If you live in an area that is continually warm (Florida for example), your bunny could just be going through a heavy shed--rabbits shed an average of 3 times a year--usually in a: heavy, light, heavy, light pattern meaning that one time they'll have a light shed, and you might not even realize they're shedding...the next time will be a heavy shed and you'll have fur everywhere. Only a vet will be able to tell you what's happening for sure.

Is it a female? Is she pulling fur from the chest area? If that's the case she is preparing a nest. What you don't have a male rabbit? Maybe she's asking for one. Other than that scenario, long haired rabbits tend to lose more fur than others. I could also be a skin condition or mites which could be handled with a vet prescribed shampoo. Hope all goes well for your little bun-bun.

she's probably just going through a molt, which rabbits have once or twice a year... just brush her and keep the hair pulled off of her and it will go away in a few days...

My rabbit is doing this too. At this time of the year, the weather is getting cold, so it's getting rid of its spring coat and growing in its winter coat. This happens in spring too.

If she is pulling it out then you need to give her something else to do. If a rabbit get bored it will self mutilate.
