hi can someone tell me if you can take a stamp off a letter that you have recieved and stick it on a letter that you are going to post? And will it get to the person you are posting it to, even though the stamp has already been used?

only if it is not post marked. if royal mail suspect that the stamp has been used then the item will be held and the person to whom you are sending it will have to pay the price of the stamp and a £1 handling charge.

don't be tight.

what happens if you stick a stamp on an envelope and then chose to not post the letter. Can you take the stamp of it and re-use it then?

Letters which dont have enough postage paid are sometimes held back and a card is posted telling the recipient that they can get their mail by paying the postage. It is illegal to re-use a stamp in the UK because stamped mail is protected by the crown. It is also illegal to open mail not addressed to you but you can redirect it by crossing out the address and writing the new address of the person for whom it is intended and re-post it. The postage paid is to the person not the address and so there is no further charge.

Stamps are cancelled with special ink. If the stamp has this ink in the US, the scanner rejects the letter as having no postage.
Sometimes letters get thru with no cancel marks in which case the stamp could be reused as it is not spoiled by the ink.
The United States has some of the cheapest postage in the world...why not just fork over the small change and buy stamps which support one of the most efficient postal systems in the world...to say nothing of the ethical issues you are goading.

I suppose if you have stamp that doesn't have the ink mark on it from the post office (which I have rarely seen happen) you can yank it off and glue it onto another letter. Or you could spend the 39 cents.

You can if you don't get caught! You have to be sure that it hasn't been post marked already. The stamp can't ahve any markings on it....that would indicate that it's been canceled.

NO is the simple answer! Also, who licked the stamp, if you want to reuse it again?
